The NCCP EM-Church of the Risen Lord is an ecumenical chaplaincy ministry in the University of the Philippines Campus, Diliman, Quezon City. This ministry traces its origins to the UP Christian Youth Movement (UPCYM). In 1947, a group of Protestant UP students led a movement that aimed to make relevant “Christian presence” on campus. They sought help from the Philippine Federation of Christian Churches (PFCC), now the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), for the construction of the sanctuary, the Gumersindo Garcia Hall, and the parsonage. On September 21, 1956, the Church of the Risen Lord (CRL), arising out of the UPCYM membership and the adult worshipers from the academic community, was formally organized. The election of the first church council was held on July 1957.
CRL is an ecumenical ministry, not a community church, i.e., it does not belong to any one denomination. It is an independent chaplaincy with a regular worshiping congregation made distinct by its joint outreach to the UP Diliman population. Though Protestant in essence it is not merely Protestant, since it joins with other Trinitarian faiths in UP by glorifying the only Savior Jesus Christ through word, witness, and work.
